Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington

The staunchly anti-abortion diocese has been active in battling the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) birth control mandate. Along with other Catholic organizations, it filed legal challenges to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Obama administration, arguing that requiring employers to cover contraceptives and sterilization violates its religious beliefs and First Amendment freedoms.
