Mass Incarceration

The criminal legal and immigration systems should exist to enforce laws that protect peoples’ human and civil rights. They should not be systems that attempt to meet this goal by decimating and ignoring the human and civil rights of those who are incarcerated. They should not be systems that profit from imprisonment and the separation of families. They should not be systems that benefit from unjust applications of the law rooted in systemic racism and xenophobia. As it currently exists, the American carceral system requires more oversight and reform to ensure that the human rights of those in custody are not compromised.
