Impact on Families and Communities
Detainment and incarceration separate families, wreak irrevocable harm on children ripped from their loved ones and erode communities. The Trump administration’s family separation policy administered by both DHS and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is an extreme example of these harms and their impacts that live on. Efforts are being made to reunite some of these families, though remain ongoing; their separation should not have ever happened and will remain a dark moment in U.S. history.
