Equity Forward Launches New Biden Admin Accountability Campaigns, Starts New Chapter
1.20.21 – Equity Forward, which was founded as an accountability organization in the early days of the Trump presidency, will continue its work under the Biden-Harris administration.
Today it is relaunching its two signature federal accountability campaigns, HHS Watch and Global Spotlight this time with profiles of agency leaders tasked with not just restoring sexual/reproductive health and global human rights that were undermined over the last few years but also protecting and expanding those rights going forward.
As the Biden-Harris transition takes shape, these projects will provide reproductive health and LGBTQ advocates need reliable resources to review the records of Biden’s nominees and hold those appointed accountable.
“With an administration led by a President and Vice-President with a commitment to protecting reproductive health, human rights, and LGBTQ rights, accountability will look a little different than it has the last four years. But Equity Forward remains committed to shining a light on the impact of federal decision-makers, no matter who is in charge,” said Molly Bangs, director of Equity Forward. “We need to reverse Trump’s four years of assault on LGBTQ people, reproductive health, and global human rights. While Biden’s appointments have so far signaled he will broadly support these issues at home and abroad, it will take significant guidance and pressure to ensure the administration executes on the individual policies needed to best protect and expand our civil and human rights.”
Equity Forward’s research and monitoring on the Biden-Harris administration will focus on appointees and offices in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the State Department, USAID, and the U.S. Mission to the UN, as well as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Department of Justice (DOJ):
● Equity Forward has implemented a coding system to track nominees’ track records on sexual/reproductive and human rights, which can be found HERE.
● Advocates, journalists, and the public will be able to access timelines tracking the policy developments under Biden-Harris cabinet members during the first 100 days of the administration and beyond.
● HHS Watch and Global Spotlight will also archive the exhaustive library of research on the Trump administration appointees allowing users the ability to compare and contrast appointees and still access information on former administration officials as they move to their next endeavors.
